Interview Process at Agoda
I was referred by an engineering manager currently working at Agoda, and I got a call after a couple of weeks from the recruiter. This was for a Full Stack Role at Agoda Thailand.
Round 1
- Two medium level DSA questions.
- This was a HackerRank interview, and I was supposed to explain my approach and write code that would pass all test cases.
- I was able to complete both questions in around 35 minutes, after which I had some chit-chat with the interviewer and ended the interview 10 minutes early.
- Verdict: Strong Hire
Round 2
- This was a JavaScript and React round.
- The interviewer asked some JS concepts around session management, promises, and some scenario-based questions.
- After this, we had a lot of discussions around performance in web development, particularly about how to improve Lighthouse scores. I had done a lot of work regarding this at my current organization, so I was able to explain LCP, FID, TTI, and TBT.
- In the end, we also discussed testing in React: unit testing vs. integration testing vs. E2E testing.
- Verdict: Hire
Round 2.5
- This was a non-elimination HR round, where we discussed my expectations and motivation to join Agoda.
- The HR also told me that since my last two rounds went really well, would I be open to a frontend-only role if my backend interviews (scheduled after this) did not go well? I said yes.
Round 3
- This was a very practical backend round.
- The interviewer gave me a rough HLD of a system and explained the functional requirements (FRs). I was then asked to make improvements to this HLD to make it more reliable, robust, and scalable.
- He then asked me about testing and what types of testing I have done at my current organization. I explained unit, integration, E2E, load, and A/B testing.
- He gave a snippet of the HLD from this round and asked me to review the code, suggesting what PR review comments I would leave if I saw this code in a PR.
- Verdict: Hire
Round 4
- This was a hiring manager (HM) round, where the HM and Director were present. The HM asked a lot of questions about my current projects and role, including how I demonstrated leadership skills, how I managed conflicts, short deadlines, etc.
- After this, he gave a bunch of hypothetical scenarios and asked me how I would conduct myself and handle those situations.
- Verdict: Hire
Finally, I had another round with the manager, senior manager, and HR to discuss my compensation and what to expect while relocating to Thailand after which the final offer was rolled out.
