Status: Experienced (~5.5 years), B.E. (Tier 3 college). 4 years of experience at Product company in India and 1.5 years at a services based company in Canada.
Position: SDE2 at Amazon (Android Application Development)
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Date: July, 2020

Interview Process:
I don't remember applying for a role lately but the recruiter reached out to me as they had my resume on file and wanted to check if I was interested in interviewing with Amazon. The Job description they shared was for SDE2 but I told that I was interested in SDE3 role (min 5 years of experience) and the recruiter said that it was possible.

The recruiter waived the Online Assessment part of the interview. So I was directly called to schedule a time for Phone Interview.

Round 1: Phone Interview
Had a call with a member of the team.

• 1 LP question with some follow up queries
• 1 Leetcode Hard problem (Word Search II)
  I was able to get the problem solved (not in an optimal way, I used DFS instead of using Tries, but I acknowledged that Tries are best suited for the problem and then went ahead with using DFS to solving it)

I was contacted by the recruiter in 2 days to let me know that I was selected for on-site interviews and asked for a date. We finalized on a date about 3 weeks from then.

Round(s) 2: On-site interviews
I had a prep call with a Lead Recruiter about 2 weeks before the interview. I was told there would be 5 interviews.

• 1 Non technical round
• 4 Technical rounds (3 coding + 1 System Design)

As far as the interviews, all the technical interviews started with 2 LP questions, some follow up and then a Leetcode Medium kind of program. I was able to solve all of them with some thought.

The questions were,

1. Merge intervals
2. Design LRU Cache (modified version of this)
3. Design TicTacToe game (slightly modified version)
4. For System Design, the question was to solve the upload image to server from the mobile app (with many deeper questions and requirements)

I wouldn't count on getting the same questions for others but this is what I received.

Non technical round was mostly based on my work experience and LP questions.

Preparation:
I subscribed to Leetcode Premium few days before my initial phone interview and it helped a lot. I solved all the problems under Amazon Questions (~68 questions). I also solved some of the daily questions under June Leetcode challenge.

All the questions I received during my interviews were from the above Amazon Questions link.

I prepared for less than 2 weeks in total but was able to understand most of it because I went through the Cracking the Coding Interview book quite recently. That helped me a lot to prepare well and fast.

For System Design, I saw a couple of videos from Tushar Roy and some other Youtube channels.

Result:
Heard 3 days after the interview that Amazon is going to extend an offer to me. Heard 2 days after that about the actual offer.

I was super happy with how the interviews went. Everyone I spoke with was super-friendly and was very supportive. It was as if I was already in the team with them working on some solution. I also had great time preparing for the interviews as I had been out-of-touch with Algorithms after my college. (Never had the need to use advanced algorithms when all you do is consume APIs most of the time).

It was definitely a great experience and I would like to thank the Leetcode mods for their excellent work in trying to get a curated list of questions for each company. Definitely recommend getting the subscription atleast a month before the interviews.
