Amazon SDE 2 | Jun 2020 [Pending]

Online Assessment:

I don't remember OA questions but I do remember that both questions were from Amazon OA leetcode page. I solved both of them with plenty of time to spare and passed all test cases. I was confident that I'd a get call for virtual onsite.

I did get a call. To my surpise, it was for a phone screen. :D Scheduled phone screen one week after that.

Phone Screen:
10 mins of LP followed by a leetcode medium algorithm interview. It was word search problem. Struggled a little bit at the beginning but managed to come up witha solution with trie + recursion. The interviewed did give useful hints along the way.

Got a mail the following day that I'd be invited for onsite.
Gave myself 3 weeks time to prepare for onsite interview. I had a minor hiccupp during the phone screen and I wanted my onsite to go as smooth as possbile.

Onsite Interview:

** First round: **
Interviewed by a Senior SDE. Started off with 2 LP questions and then jumped to a system design problem. This is where I really shined. The interviewer asked interesting questions and I showed off my in-depth knowledge on partitioning, NoSQL, caching, data modeling, API design, push/pull etc. (Strongly recommend Designing data intensive application book. This book is gold mine).

** Second round **
Interviewed by a SDE. As expected, started off with 2 LP questions and then a rather simple OOD problem. I was able to finish it off in time and had a couple of minor bugs. The interviewer alerted me and I was able to find and fix them. Overall it went well. LP could have gone better, I guess. The interviewer kept cutting me short. Not really how well my stories sat with the interviewer as I couldn't give the full context on my stories. Oh well.

** Third round **
Hiring manager. All LP questions. I'd like to think it went well but the manager seemed indifferent. Probed a lot on each on my stories and I was able to answer them all well. Whether it impressed him or not, I'll have to wait to find out. :)

** Fourth round **
Algorithm question with a SDE. It was LC hard. I had solved a similar problem using backtracking approach so I was able to solve it pretty quickly. Again, I had a couple of minor bugs. The interviewer pointed out and I fixed them. Besides that, I didn't get any help from the interviewer and solved it pretty much on my own. 2 LP questions after algorithm. This was probably my best LP round. Not sure if it's owning to the fact that the dude was so cool, I felt pretty relaxed and was able to narrate my stories perfectly. All in all, this round went great.

** Fifth round **
One more algorithm round. A variation of merge k sorted lists. I solved it pretty quickly. But then, by this time I was totally exhausted. I had no energy for the LP round. I was far from eloquent. My mind shut down but my mouth was talking :D I answered the LP questions I guess I confused the interviewer a lot too with my ramblings. LP in this round was a major letdown.

Overall, I think I did really well in system design, ood & algorithms. LP could have been better. Now the wait begins to find out if the reusing stories during will go against me :P

Cheers
