Hi Everyone, I recently got my result for interviews with Facebook so I thought of sharing my experience with the LC community.

Note: I am not going to list the specific questions I had because of the NDA

Background: I am a Senior Software Engineer at a big E-Commerce company, with 8 years of experience.

The recruiter reached out to me on Gmail. I had an initial call with them before the phone screen interview.

Interviews
Phone Screen (45 min coding question)

  1. Medium array question (FB tagged question)
I was able to solve the main question pretty well
  2. Easy String question (FB tagged question, very popular)
I was able to solve this quickly and optimally.

3 days later I got the result that my interview went well and I am moving into Onsite stage.

Virtual Onsite (4 interviews, 45 min each)

Coding 1

Medium array question (FB tagged question)
I solved this one quickly with no hints.
Medium string question (FB tagged question)
I solved this one quickly with no hints.

Coding 2

Medium array question (FB tagged question)
I solved this one with sub optimal solution first. Then i was able to come up with optimal solution as well
Medium string question (FB tagged question)
I was able to solve it. Many followup questions were asked which i was able to answer

System Design

System design question, similar to the ones from Gr***ing the Design Interview.
I was able to lay out the main design and address the deep-dive questions as well (e.g. how to handle bottlenecks, etc.).

Behavioural round

Questions regarding past and current projects, teamwork etc. Questions on my leadership techniques and how do i handle people. I had prepared some stories about previous interesting or challenging projects / situations from my past experience. I had some good examples for each of the questions that the interviewer asked. There was a small coding question which I misunderstood first but I was able to solve within time.

So far I was feeling very confident as my interviews went really well.
Recruiter came back to me for an update (after 1 week). They said that feedback was positive but Hiring Committee didn't get enough signal for E5 level from Behavioural round. So there will be another follow up Behavioural round.

Behavioural round 2

This round again had similar standard questions. I gave some really good examples from my past and current role.I had a great conversation with the interviewer and he looked convinced. There was no coding question.

Again, I was feeling very confident. :)

Recruiter came back to me for an update (after 2 days). They said that overall feedback is positive but they cannot offer E5 level. They can offer E4 but the head count for this year is already full so they are putting me on hold.

I was actually disappointed at first on hearing this because my interviews went very well. However, I learned a lot from the process and I am looking forward to the time when E4 positions are open.
