Status: 1.8 years experience from mid-tier startup + Part-time Lead developer at another start-up, BS CS Tier-3 college
Position: Software Engineer + Lead web-systems developer
Location: Odisha, India
Date: May 11, 2020

Contacted by recruiter via email after looking at my resume on instahyre. The email listed position and the required a conformation if i was interested. Replied yes.

First Round: OA (Online Assessment) (Coding platform - AMCAT)

Consists of 3 Sections:

  1. Coding section - 2 hrs
  2. Code Explanation - 15 mins
  3. Behavorial MCQ related to Amazon's Leadership Principles.

Coding Section:
Two Coding Questions in this round.

  1. Partition Labels
  2. Don't remember.

After this round i forgot to fill out some stupid survey due to which the OA was retriggered.

Same format test again. But it felt difficult than the last time.

Two coding questions again:

  1. Critical Routers
  2. Number of Islands

Successfully filled survey this time and moved forward.

Second Round: F2F (Face 2 Face Round) (Virtual Onsite - Amazon Chime)

Two Technical Questions:

  1. Stock Span Problem - Provided Brute force approach. Was not able to Optimize even after hints.
  2. Number of Islands - Variation of this problem with all 8 directions. Coded optimal solution directly.

I thought i won't move forward with next rounds as i had performed so bad. Thankfully another round was scheduled after a gap of 1 day. I was devastated, to gain momentum all i did was this...

Self affirmations can take you a long way. I typed these words 1000 times and started preparing again.

Third Round: F2F (Face 2 Face Round) (Virtual Onsite - Amazon Chime)

Two Technical Questions and some LP(Leadership Principle based Questions):

  1. First negative integer in every window of size k - Was able to solve it in one shot as i had solved it earlier.
  2. Maximum width of a binary tree - Was able to solve it using queue.

Fourth Round: F2F (Face 2 Face Round) (Virtual Onsite - Amazon Chime) (Bar - Raiser)
I got 1 week's extra time to prepare for this round.

Some basic questions, 4 LP's and 1 technical question

  1. Explain diff between interpreted and compiled languages.
  2. Diff between SQL and NO-SQL. And when to choose what? Any prior experience using both.
  3. Diff between Mutex and Semaphore. Any prior experience using both. (I only used Mutex locks with REDIS)
  4. Veru long question. Solution was to use Max Heap and handle ton's of corner cases. Interviewer provided good hints and interview ended on a positive note.

Fifth Round: F2F (Face 2 Face Round) (Virtual Onsite - Amazon Chime) (Hiring Manager Round)

5 Behavorial Questions related to Amazon's Leadership Principles.

Result: Offer
