PreScreening Round -> Number of Island and a follow up regarding the area of island and some questions around concurrency, http , REST, LoadBalancing
Was able to solve both the questions

Coding Round 1 -> Find the Celebrity Problem -> gave the indegree and outdegree approach but the interviewer was not satisfied she wanted the O(1) space approach

Game Theory Based Question -> Interviewer just wanted the approach was able to provide it

Self Verdict -> No Hire
Interview Verdict -> No Hire

Coding Round 2-> Word Break -> was able to code out the most optimal approach
A Heap based question -> interviewer just asked the approach and looked satisfied

Self Verdict -> Hire
Interviewer Verdict -> No Hire (was bit surprised about this)

Design Round -> Design a key-value based DB . I do have a good understanding of DynamoDB Internals and was able to give a reasonable solution to it
Interviewer Verdict - >Hire

HM Round -> He gave me a scenario of a task and asked how i will approach it he looked satisifed
Interview Verdict -> Hire

Heard back from the recruiter after around 1.5 months from recruiter that the feedback for both Coding 1 and Coding 2 rounds were negative

Learnings from this ->

  1. While practing DSA make sure you are able to convey your thought process clearly to others
  2. Do Mock Interviews if you have an issue with nerves(like I do)
  3. Don't just practice standard questions if you have solved them before , creates a habit of skipping the dry run's and thought build process

Microsoft SDE-2 Reject

  1. Round 1 -> Jump game -> gave the DP and greedy approach
    Minimum Platforms. -> gave the greedy approach
    verdict -> positive

  2. Round 2-> LLD -> Elevator Design -> we had discussion around how to implement idempotency, fairness of the requests(i gave a simple queue approach for single threaded system , a blocking queue for multithreaded system)

  3. Round 3 -> HLD -> Design a data aggreagator and generate insights from it
    Used CDC pattern since there were different data sources interviewer looked satisfied

  4. Round 4 -> HM -> Purely non technical round around my work and all

  5. Round 5 -> Behaviour Round -> Similar to the previous round

Verdict -> I use too many AWS specific terminologies and tried to blaze through my answers in behavioural round

Learnings -> Apart from mock interviews for technical round also participate in mock behavioural rounds , also i am internally switching teams and i did several Hiring Manager rounds but this was never a problem as they are familiar with Amazon specific terms
