Hi Community,
Sharing my worst ever interview experience with databricks for Full Stack Engineer Role. Currently working in one of the Remote Startup with 3+ exp.
After applying through referral. Recruiter reach out to me for further processing of the application.
Also they mentioned they have same level as of Google, like really you guys are comparing yourself with google?
Process:
1. Hiring Manager:
This round was about 30-45 mins, it will be discussion around you past experience and challenges you faced in those projects. Basically, typical HM Round. Interviewer was very friendly. Also found out why databricks is hiring in India so much (added details in last). Cleared it.
Further 2 Rounds were scheduled by recruiter.
2. DSA Round (45min):
The interview was frustrating. It was a late-night session with an interviewer based in the U.S. He posted a game-related question involving a matrix, where we needed to check winning conditions. I quickly understood the question, explained my approach, and started coding.
Halfway through, he unexpectedly asked me to run the code, even though I wasn’t done. When I ran it, of course, it failed. He clarified that he wanted to see it work for a basic condition, so I made adjustments. It ran, but then he insisted on a specific matrix format, which wasn’t originally clear.
As I tried to cover all edge cases, he stopped me again, asking for an explanation. I requested time to finish first since we only had 10 minutes left, but he insisted on an explanation. I spent five minutes explaining, though he didn’t seem satisfied. I finished the code just in time, but there was a minor bug due to an interruption earlier. He pointed out an error in the wrong function, didn’t allow me 30 seconds to debug, and ended the interview – clearly having made up his mind.
2 days after recruiter informed me that round didn't go well.
I am okay with all such rude nature, I am happy to explain everything, give me atleast 15min in peace to code the solution which that interviewer sucked it.
Reason why hiring is going so much in india: Cut-off teams from US, shifting base to india. But the projects are not good at all, they will be some kind of internal tools projects for their own employees evaluation which is not at all good to show in resume as they don't show any scale its like building simple full stack application with scale max of 1-2k at peak.
I haven't such a rude, strict interviewer for a DSA round. One thing from now I am sure if the interviewer is older (10+ exp) he is not open for any conversation, he just want answer what is in his head.
If you are in loop for databricks hiring, beware of their interviewer they are not at all friendly.
