HR contacted me on Linkedin (India location)
Round 1 OA -> 1 DSA , 1 SQL (hard) , 1 Python Coding question was able to solve all 3 of them in around 30 mins
Round 2 Coding -> Asked about spark architecture , projects , 2 SQL(1 medium , 1 hard) questions . This round goes well for me.
Round 3 Design -> gave some design problem like netflix where user can search by any movie title , movie name , actor , director or any other person who worked in that movie. We need to design architecture/data model for this.
I was able to design data model and also tables and their relations. interviewer was the manager who is hiring for his team and he was very impressed by the approach.
Round 4 behavioural Round(Senior Director take this round) -> asked about some scenario based questions.
The Recruiter reached out to me after a day with the feedback - > Technical aspect is excellent but behavioural is not.
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the process, as the feedback feels overly critical and doesn’t provide much constructive guidance.
In the behavioral round, I explained that I focus on writing clear, concise, and easily understandable code. However, HR mentioned they're looking for someone who prioritizes data analysis over coding for the data engineer role. This was unexpected, as my emphasis on coding doesn’t imply a lack of focus on data analysis or data quality.
