Uber SDE2 Interview Onsite

There were total of 4 rounds which include 2 coding rounds, 1 Low Level and 1 Hiring Manager.

Round 1: Screening Round
1 Coding problem.
maximum-sum-iarri-among-rotations-given-array (Geeks for Geeks)
Really bombed this round. But at time end of interview was able to submit the question after lot of hand holding. Reason got panicked.

Round 2: Depth Coding Round
1 DP based coding problem. Given a matrix of size n*m with tower heights as input. For each tower you are allowed to jump to other neighbour tower if height of current tower < height of neighbour tower. Find the maximum number of towers you can jump.
Input :

 60 60 40
 50 40 45
 15 10 10

For above input the ans is 4

10 -> 15 -> 50 -> 60

NOTE: - You can start from any tower.

Was able to solve this question within given time and space constraints. This round went well.

Round 3: Low Level Design
Design a car booking system and implement two API's.

  1. getAllAvailableCars(int startDate, int endDate);
  2. reserverCar(int startDate, int endDate);

Note:- Input data is coming in infinite stream format like [startDate, endDate]. Example - [10, 12], [13, 15]
This is something which I clarified as part of initial requirements discussion.

Expectation

  1. Discuss initial requirements. Limit the scope of problem. Finalize Assumptions.
  2. List Down Entities and models
  3. Discuss SOLID Principles, Design Patterns and Inheritance/Interfaces
  4. Discuss different booking startegies. Like First Fit, MinimumWastage
  5. Write working code with all entities and helper classes. Define modularity and use Design pattern for implementation.
  6. Finally concurrent user scenerios and if possible working demo.

This round went really well. I was able to answer all the problems except 1 which was minimumWastage Based strategy. This is something which I heard for the first time. But yeah in general board discussion went really well and I was able to explain full scenario and how this can extend for future use cases.
Design Pattern used
a) Singleton for CarBookingApp
b) Strategy for different booking strategies

Round 3: Hiring Manager Round
Question based on current work and past projects. Interview keeps grilling me with lots of why questions.

  1. How would you resolve conflicts among peers.
  2. Explain 1 scenario where your work was used by someone outside your team.
  3. Explain the time when you get a criticism feedback.
  4. Explain the scenario when you and done something above and beyond.
  5. Explain the scenario when you really made a huge mistake and what you have done.

Was able to answer these questions really well. Because I had faced these scenarios in my 4 years of experience. So the cross questioning also went really well. Finally this round was something which I am proud of myself.

Alright Done for today!!!
Really looking forward for next round (System Design) from Uber. Result will be anounced next Friday.
Except Round1, all rounds went really well. Now I am not sure whether I will get the next round call or not.
