I got a referral for SDE-1 at Razorpay. There were 2 interviews, both happened in 1 day.

Round 1 (LLD)

I was asked to implement an in-memory relation db. I needed to implement the following features:

• Create table with a fixed schema (name, id, age)
• Create multiple tables within a database
• Can support multiple database
• Insert, Update, Delete a row
• Index on a specific field, auto incremented id

I was able to implement the solution in 1 hour. He asked me various clarifying questions about the implementation of indexing and how would a select query run for an indexed vs non-indexed fields.

After 2 hours, I got a call there will be a HM round later today.

Round 2 (HM Round)

There we multiple questions without any proper feedback from him. He just threw the questions and wanted an answer.

• What was the most difficult problem you solved till now?
• Let's say there are 3 services, A, B and C. Service A creates an id1, sends it to B, which then responds id2 to A. Then these pair of ids are send to service C. How would you handle this? What are the challenges, situations that we would need to check? How to make sure we handle consistency?
• Asked me about redis, types of data structures in redis
• Asked me the code which I did in LLD, how did I implement it
• Then he asked me about the HLD for a notification system. It was unexpected for me. But still I had studied a lot of HLD and gave an okayish solution I guess (as much as I could).
• What is work life balance for you?
• Why are you looking for a change?

Result

After 2 days, I called the HR, she told me they are interviewing others and will let me know the result till next week. I called next week, she didn't pick the calls.
I called her again after 5 days, she replied that I got rejected in the HM round.

Didn't recieve any feedback, and didn't understand what went wrong. The HM was tackling some escalation in between my interview, maybe he had some distractions. I don't know the exact reason for my rejection.
