Experience: Senior Data Engineer ~ 4YOE
Position: Senior Data Engineer at StockX
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Interview dates : 2nd and 3rd weeks of November, 2023

The entire interview process finished in just 2 weeks, starting from the screening rounds to rolling the offer.

INITIAL SCREENING (via zoom)

Call with HR (30-45 minutes) :
HR explained about the role. I was asked to go through each requirement and honestly answer about how much I know about each of the technologies mentioned.

Tech team Fitment round with DE Team Manager (30-45 minutes) :
Questions based on data engineering tech stack that I mentioned in my resume.

  • Spark, Hadoop. MapReduce, Hive, SQL, Spark Streaming, SCDs etc.
  • DE Pipeline requirement Gathering - What questions do we, as data engineers, need to ask when we get a requirement to develop data pipeline for a particular usecase?

The result of this tech fitment screening round has been shared by the HR on the very next day, post which the virutal onsite interview process has been initiated.

VIRTUAL ONSITE INTERVIEWS (via Zoom)

Tech Round 1 (60-75 minutes) with a Senior Data Engineer:

  • Data pipeline projects - end to end explanation and reasoning as to why I chose which approach.
  • Spark Streaming - Possible issues and resolutions.
  • Spark optimisations
  • Scenario based pipeline design. How to design for the same usecase if it is a batch requirement and what changes do we need to consider if there is a streaming data requirement.

Tech Round 2 (30-45 minutes) with a Senior Data Engineer:

  • SCD
  • Data Modelling
  • 2 Leetcode Easy-Medium DSA questions - Related to Arrays and Strings
  • 2 SQL Questions

Stakeholder Managment Round (45 minutes) with a Product Owner:

  • Behavioural Questions
  • Had to talk about Past situations where I showed Leadership, Team spirit, Conflict resolution, Collaboration etc.
  • Questions related to interacting and effectively communicating with Product teams and business stakeholders

Overall Tech Fitment Round (45 minutes) with Data Engineering Senior Director:

  • SCD
  • Spark Streaming
  • Spark optimisations
  • Behavioural questions

FINAL CONFIRMATION CALLS (via Zoom)

Call with HR (30 minutes) : HR wanted to make sure that I won't be hopping/rejecting the job after accepting the offer letter. I gave examples about some cases where I stood loyal to my previous employer.

Call with DE Team Manager (30 minutes): Same as above. Manager wanted to get the confidence that one I accept the offer, I wouldn't be quitting in the last minute.

RESULT : OFFER ROLLED OUT. I accepted it and joined the company.
