Location: Delhi, India

Google (L3):

Had telephonic interview in Feb and I cleared that round comfortably. Was asked a question on arrays and had to optimize it. Then I had 5 rounds of technical discussion in March and according to me they went well (or so I thought) but recruiter called me after a week and told me that things did not go well (borderline case) so they won't be moving ahead.

All the questions asked were related to graphs or dp on graphs. There was 1 question on array but follow-up required modelling it as a graph. I am neutral to graphs. Don't love it, don't hate it.

It did feel bad after the rejection since I gave it my all (mentioned below) but whatever. I am over it now.

Microsoft (L60):
Went through 5 rounds with 4 technical and 1 hiring manager round. It was held on Teams virtually and every round was an elimination round.

Questions were mainly on Arrays, Stacks, Linked Lists and Trees/Graphs. (I solved a particular Tree problem using Graph but interviewer was fine with it). Some follow up questions were: How will you scale it up? What if multiple users want to use it? How can you use multithreading in your solutions?

Moreover, working code wasn't expected but a pseudocode/logical flow was required over Screen Share and thankfully IDE use was allowed. [But I still wrote complete code, I find pseudocode harder somehow] Questions were easier compared to Google.

And feedback was instant. After completing the rounds, within 5 mins I have told that I'll be given the offer.

Amazon (SDE-1):
Gave the online assessment round. There were 2 questions. One was related to using hashmaps and other was related to Graph traversal. I cleared all the test cases in both the questions and recruiter contacted me about the interviews and asked me for my expectation etc. Since I had offer from Microsoft, I told him about the same and gave him my expecatation figure but he declined.

So it ended at this stage.

Overall: Graph seems to be a fav topic among these companies and thankfully I had studied that so it helped. Google asked mostly graph questions (duh), Microsoft asked on a variety of topics and Amazon was standard OA round (it was much easier in college though)

My LC stats: 300 solved E-80 M-170 H-50

My prep strategy: I started solving problems on leetcode 1.5 months back mainly to prep for Google. I used to solve from 10pm to 4am everyday and more on weekends. Made notes of hard / med problems I couldn't solve and revised it. I did easy problems for fun or when I needed a mental break. 2-3 days before interviews, I stopped doing everything and just watched movies and played games. [Whatever happens, happens for good!]

My personal motto: The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.

Hope this helps! (I know I haven't detailed out everything, I just gave a broad overview of things as a lot has happened in these past few weeks) but seriously, stick to your fundamentals and basics and it will all be good. All the best guys!
