Amazon | TPM role | Vancouver, BC | First phone interview

I passed my first TPM phone interview with Amazon on Feb 12th 2020. I thought it'd be good to share some of the questions and experience

Overall the experience was extremely good. Interviewer was really patient at the times when I was bit nervous and was taking bit longer to answer questions.

First phase was introduction period. I felt after the interview that I should have kept my intro to 5-7 minutes instead of 10-12 minutes. I only highlighted past experiences that were relevant to the position.

In next phase I was asked lot of questions about project management. For example how have I lead a project kick off meeting, how do I ensure project completed done within time/or how do I sense project risks. Be sure to focus on what "I" did in the meeting.

I was also asked about couple of large projects that I have done. None of my projects were even close to the scale of Amazon but I answered them as "here is what I would do if transactions were to grow by 1000%". I would recommend draw a design of your project(s) and think how can you scale that to Amazon levels. I focussed on load balancing, caching (where and why caching did not work in my project), data partitioning.

Third and last phase was about feedback. I had about 10 minutes to ask questions. One of main questions was what does a typical day of a TPM look like. I also asked about what problems is their team trying to solve.
