Just wanted to share my interview experience:

I applied to google in December and had my onsite in the same month, because of the NDA I can't disclose specific problems.

The entire preparation process for me took 7+ months, during this time I experienced rejections from Pinterest, Amazon and Dropbox but I used these rejections as an inspiration to keep pushing myself to improve, I also had offers from other companies which I declined since.

My interview strategy was the following:

  • Completely read and go through each problem in "Cracking the coding interview"
  • Study every day for 4+ hours, every study session was focusing on a algorithmic subject or so
  • Being able to solve problems under a 20-25 minute mark for every major algorithmic category labeled under leetcode, leaving DP programming as a last subject of study. Every time I start working on a subject I would start with the easy problems and if I couldn't solve it I would look at the solution, I think timing how long it takes you to produce a solution is important since during interviews (in many companies) you might be asked to talk about a project and then jump into problem solving, shorting the 45 minute mark you typically have
  • Being able to communicate efficiently my ideas during the onsite
  • During the onsite I would even recommend solving the problem or at least mentioning a solution you thought of even if it's not optimal

Took me a lot of rejections but I finally did it and I would say leetcode is definitely a tool that can help you.

6+ YOE. Education outside of the US.
