Status: BS in Mech. Eng, 1.5 YOE as SWE at small startup
Position: SDE at Amazon
Location: Arlington, VA (HQ2)
Date: Late January 2020

Online Assessment:

  • 2 graph based problems - similar to Number of Islands
  • Only passed ~50% of test cases, but made up for it with explicit written explanations in the text boxes at the end (I had the right idea, just buggy implementation)
  • Don't freak out if you don't pass all the test cases! Just make sure you explain your thought process well.

No phone screen

Onsite was a hiring event, 4x50min Signed an NDA so I wont be describing problems in detail

  1. 3x LP questions, and system design
  2. (Bar Raiser) 3x LP questions, 1x LC Easy/Medium with extensions to try and optimize
  3. 2x LP, OOP Easy/Medium - no real extensions or twists
  4. 2x LP, Easy problem, then an extension to the problem that was ~Medium, then a Hard extension

All in all I think it was a reasonable interview onsite. I felt like I did well, and the questions they were asking would give an accurate depiction of my real ability. All of the interviewers were GREAT!

Hang in there guys, I've interviewed other places before (Google etc.) and felt miserable/drained afterwards. Keep trying! A huge part is luck - getting the right people at the right time, who ask the right questions.

Also, anyone else ever gone through the process and not had a phone screen? It felt super weird. First time I talked to anyone technical was onsite. I'll be posting offer details in Compensation at a later date.
