Position: Staff Software Engineer at PayPal Checkout team
Location: Seattle/Remote
Date: August - October 24, 2023

Round 1: Online Coding Assessment (1 hour)
- Basic String manipulation questions.
- Ambiguous questions, the examples and sentencing were not clear.

Round 2: Technical phone screen (1 hour):
-Follow up on the previous questions, adding complexity and parameters.
- Resume walkthroughs.

Round 3: Virtual OnSite rounds (4 hours):

• Mix of Coding, System Design, Behavioural and Clean Coding practices.
• Behavioral questions - Like tell me how many people you talk to who are not Software Developers. How do you deal with ambiguities when the deliverables are impacted outside your control.
• Algorithm question - String manipulations mostly
  Result: Rejected - No reason given, just said we went with another candidate that fits our needs better (which was kind of BS given that the manager in the checkout team said they're hiring over 50 people this year lol).

Feedback:
It was a weird experience with interviewing with PayPal. The questions were outside the norms where the coding questions were easy but focused way more on code quality and the ability to write and maintain good code.
All my interviews went pretty well so it was a shocker when I got the rejection, and it was shittier that they didn't give any good feedback or reason either even after explicitly asking for them.
