I got a call to interview at Bazaarvoice. The director of engineering themselves called and apoke over call for around 20 minutes about the company. Then proceeded to ask ctc details. I kept refusing and it looked like they were not willing to proceed because I was not willing to share CTC details at that stage.
I got a call next day to schedule the first round but was again being asked to share CTC details to proceed my application. I again refused. They said they cannot proceed and I did not mind.
The recruiter called again and said that I will have to share payslips and other documents after the interview and if I am okay with that, then they want to schedule the interview as the resume is shortlisted.
The round was kept and it is called "exploratory call". My interviewer was a lead/managerial role at the company. They did not ask any technical questions. They had no follow up questions to my past projects, experience, roles and responsibilities. They had no feedback and with their body language, it appeared that they were not technically sound, hence had no questions for me.
The last question asked to me was whether I want to be a manager or an IC. I specifically stated that I am an IC and would decide on going down the manager path or architect path in coming years.
A week later, I got a rejection mail saying they are moving ahead with other candidates. The recruiter stated that if I want to know more, they are willing to have a call. I replied to the email asking for a reason.
One week after the mail, the recruiter called and said that the reason I was rejected is because "Based on the interview, they see me as a technomanagerial level person which is not the position they currently have. They are looking for someone technical".
I understood that the interviewer was intimidated by their lack of knowledge and gave negative feedback intentionally.
Was not really looking forward to join it but got an experience.
