I recently got the chance to interview at Atlassian for the Full-time grad SDE role through their WIT hiring.

Around 30k people participated in the Online Assessment round including third-year and final-year students and approx 350 people ( Top 1 % ) were invited for interviews for a summer intern and full-time grad respectively. The interview process for summer interns only includes one technical interview and one managerial interview while for full-time grad it was:

Interview - DSA
Interview - System Design
Interview - Managerial Round

Online Assessment - 12 Oct 2022

The online test was conducted on Hackerrank. The time duration was 90 mins and there were 4 problems.

The following were the problems asked in the OA:

  1. It was a pretty simple problem based on Maths.
  2. https://leetcode.com/problems/find-the-city-with-the-smallest-number-of-neighbors-at-a-threshold-distance/
  3. https://leetcode.com/problems/set-intersection-size-at-least-two/
  4. It was a hard-level problem based on Binary Search.

On 19th Oct, I got the mail that I was shortlisted for the interview and the interviews will be scheduled between Nov 3 - Dec 15. Mine was on 8th Nov. All the rounds at Atlassian are supposed to be conducted on the same day.

Interview Round 1: DSA

This was completely DSA round in my case, no other questions were asked to me.

This round lasted for one hour and I was asked only one DSA-based problem statement a kind of open-ended problem which could have many solutions.

The problem was pretty simple in the start and I was able to code it out in 5 - 10 minutes, then the interviewer kept on adding variations to it and the same problem was discussed though out.

Some of the famous Atlassian DSA problems are:

  1. Rate limiter
  2. HashMap implementation methods
  3. String Matching algorithm

My interview ended at 9.30 AM and at 9.33 AM I received the mail that my next round is scheduled at 10 AM. (super fast :D)

Interview Round 2: System Design

This round may last one hour or more depending on your interviewer. and we were asked only one problem statement a kind of open-ended problem which could have many solutions.

The interview started with a discussion of the requirements of the system and questions were asked as I went on with my approach.

I was able to design the system well with the databases, api, and component diagram but my interviewer was focused only on the algorithm of the design and as a result, I was rejected after this round.

Some of the famous Atlassian system design problems are:

  1. Rate limiter
  2. Unique Id generator
  3. Book my show
  4. Tagging system
  5. Colour picker
  6. Scheduler

And, for the third round, basically, no technical questions were asked as I got to know from my friends but this round was also equally difficult as everything was asked in detail including your projects, internship work, college work, etc. You will be judged based on Atlassian core values.
