I applied to Bloomberg in June 2022 (new grad, 0 years of exp). The HR reached out saying they'd be setting up a phone interview followed by virtual on-site if all went well.
Phone Interview:
Started with the usual introductions, 2 classic questions, Meeting Rooms II and a variation of LRU cache. Bloomberg insists on not needing to compile the code and waste time debugging simple errors, just had to explain my thinking, write out the steps and then code it up.
Virtual Onsite Interviews: (Three interviews spread across two days)
Round 1 (DSA / Coding): Two interviewers; began with introductions, a few HR style questions (why you want to join, questions related to working in a team etc), and discussions about a project I had worked on. After around 20 minutes of discussions, hopped onto Hackerrank for coding, the question was a variation of Invalid Transactions. There were a couple of things they changed on me halfway through and threw a few situations my way "what about this case, can we do this" and so on. Was pretty collaborative and fun, got to a solution they were happy with in the end
Round 2 (System design): Probably the best interviewer ever. He openly asked whether I had done a system design interview before, I hadn't since most companies don't have system design for freshers. Was asked to design an ecommerce website like Amazon. Probably a fairly standard system design question but was super fun to go over each service I felt was needed for the requirements. Was extremely collaborative with both of us bouncing ideas off each other. 10/10 experience
Round 3 (HR / Managerial): Two interviewers again, one was a recruiter / HR and the other was a senior engineer at Bloomberg. Had a whole bunch of classic HR questions, the senior engineer asked quite a few technical ones too. Mostly related to a deep dive of a project I had worked on. I felt like I did okay here, pretty hard to judge how you did in an HR round in my opinion.
Three days later, the HR reached out saying they'd like to extend me an offer for a role in Pune. Overall it was one of the best interview experiences I have ever had. All interviewers were extremely friendly and they focused on collaboration rather than simply grilling the interviewee. The crystal clear communication was a lovely switch up compared to a couple other companies I have interviewed at.
