PayU Interview Experience | Gurgaon | Senior Software Engineer

I didn't find much resources on leetcode or on google in general about PayU's interview process so thought of helping the community with my experience.

A recruiter contacted me through Naukri and asked for the details like work experience, salary expections etc post which I got interviewed for Senior Software Engineer position at PayU Gurgaon.

1. Round 1: Programming
It was on a platform called Intervue where you're expected to write and run complete code along with test cases.

Q1: https://leetcode.com/discuss/interview-question/613816/Google-or-Onsite-or-Meeting-Rooms-3
Q2: https://leetcode.com/problems/subdomain-visit-count/

I could solve both of them.

2. Round 2: Problem Solving, Fundamentals
I got an update from the recruiter within 2 days asking for the round 2 availability.

Programming: https://leetcode.com/problems/binary-tree-right-side-view/
Fundamentals: What happens when you type www.google.com (or any site) in browser, SOLID principles, some questions on Memory Leak, Multithreading, Java StringBuilder etc.

3. Round 3: Hiring Manager
Again recruiter updated me within 2 days for next round. That's when things started going in the wrong direction. At first interviewer didn't join, I had to call my recruiter after which the interviewer joined from his Phone, he was driving somewhere. I asked whether he wants to reschedule but he insisted to continue. He didn't ask any question related to technical stuff (I was expecting LLD/HLD) and started asking me irrelevant stuff. I felt I was wasting my time so asked him myself whether he has any design level question and he replied "not needed". At the end he made a statement like "not everyone can go to IIT, so people go for some tier 3 colleges, may be you should also follow the same!". He was 16+ years experienced and I found him very arrogant and not at all professional. I didn't react and ended the conversation with a smile.

Next I got an update from recruiter that they are rejecting me as I couldn't come up with Database schema (Offcource this was just some random feedback which the interviewer thought of typing as our discussion didn't even go in the technical direction). I thought of sharing the same to HR and he scheduled another HM round with a different interviewer.

4. Round 3(II): Hiring Manager
This was a really good discussion and couple of questions related to HLD fundamentals were asked and at the end he also asked one DSA question similar to https://leetcode.com/problems/container-with-most-water/. Overall I was confident about this round.

I was expecting a callback but it didn't happen. When I called the recruiter he said, I have cleared all the rounds and asked me to share the documents(salary slips etc) after which I recieved an invite for HR round in which HR again didn't join. When I called the recruiter he said it was his last working day and he left early.
I asked for a reschedule and ofcourse that didn't happen. After this the recruiter started ignoring my calls/emails and since I've had enough red flags already I too stopped.

Overall Experience: Pretty Bad
This experience could be subjective but it felt like I wasted almost a month in clearing their interview process just to get ghosted by them. (He is still posting on LinkedIn that he is hiring and all. :) )
There can be just one reason for ghosting here, my salary expectations didn't match their budget but this was something I shared in the very beginning itself. I feel they consider multiple people for one job and whosoever puts the least expected salary gets the offer.
