Bloomberg | SWE (intern) | Frankfurt | June 2022 [Reject]

Status: Junior CS student
Position: SWE intern at Bloomberg
Location: Frankfurt, Germany
Date: May-June 2022

Round 1: Phone Interview (1 hour)

  • Discussed projects and internships listed in my CV
  • "Why do you want to join Bloomberg?" and similar questions
  • 1 LC hard problem (string manipulation)

I was notified 3 days later that I have passed this round.

Round 2: Technical Interview (1 hour)

Unlike the first round, this round took place over Zoom with two interviewers.

  • Discussed projects and internships listed in my CV
  • "Why do you want to join Bloomberg?" and similar questions
  • 2 LC medium problems.

My solution was near optimal, and the interviewers were friendly.
2 days later, I received an email that I passed this round.

Round 3: System design Interview (90 minutes)

Unlike the first two rounds, this round focused on system design rather than coding. This one lasted 90 minutes, the longest of all rounds.
As usual, the interviewer started with discussing the CV, what my motivation is to join this internship, etc..
As for the technical part, the interviewer focused heavily on optimizing the database indexing, schema, and the type of queries that will be popular according to the system's core feature.
Although I stumbled in a couple of questions about indexes, I always expressed my thoughts out loud during the interview, and made sure that my ideas were clearly communicated.

I thought I had performed well. But, two days later, I received a rejection email.
