I interviewed with Akuna Capital, EAB, Amazon, HPE, Bloomberg, Google, VMware, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Two Sigma, Broadway, Lucid while searching for a job. I was able to get offers from Amazon, VMware, HPE, Oracle Cloud and Google. Reading interview experiences was really helpful for me and I think it's my turn to give back to this great community.

I first interviewed with google before my masters in 2020 and had failed badly. I never stopped leetcoding after that. When I started my masters, I had done almost 450 questions on leetcode and I was able to do most of the mediums with very little hints. I used C++ in all of my interviews.I will go through each company and the nature of the interviews for that company. I will not be sharing exact questions because of NDAs.

Akuna Capital:

This was my very first interview. I had cleared an online assessment and was invited for the interview. I was asked to implement a container in c++ with operator overloading supported. I did implement the container but received a rejection in a later phase. I answered a basic question on C++ stuff but didn’t state my assumption and I think that cost me this interview.

EAB:

I think there was a mismatch between my skills and what the team needed. This interview was a disaster for me. I was barely able to answer any questions in this interview. Received a rejection the next day.

Lucid:

After completing the online assessment, I was invited to an interview. I was given 3 questions in one hour and the interviewer was more into the proctoring role. 2 of the questions were easy to medium. One was a game based object oriented design question. I ran out of time for this interview and wasn’t able to finish the third question on time although I was very close. Received rejection for this as well.

At this point, I had started doubting myself and I felt stagnant to solve any problems. I started revisiting the basics and solving problems which I had done previously again. One major thing that happened after this was I felt confident and my coding speed increased. I also had started giving mock interviews at this point for both behavioral and technical.

HPE:

There were a total of 6 rounds including an initial phone screen by the manager. Initial phone screen had a medium lc and one situational problem. I was moved to a virtual onsite having 5 interviews. Each interview had some behavioral questions and coding questions. Coding questions included LLD, LC mediums and multithreading. There was one hiring manager interview again onsite and it was pretty much on the behavioral side. I received an offer for this one. This was my first offer and it really took a lot of pressure off.

Amazon:

I received an invite to 3 rounds of interviews for a new grad position. I had completed 3 assessments before these interviews. Each interviewer asked a LC medium and a couple of behavioral questions based on Amazon leadership principles. Three continuous interviews were tough for me at that time. I was continuously talking and explaining stuff during the interviews. I barely got a minute or two between interviews. But that was all worth it and I received an offer from amazon.

Bloomberg:

There was an initial coffee chat with an engineer. I think this was a screening round. It had been scheduled for only 10 mins and I discussed my development interests with the interviewer. I was invited for a virtual interview after this. Virtual interviews had 3 rounds and 2 of them were technical. Each had two lc medium to hard questions ( some of them were from tagged questions). Then there was a hiring manager round. I had traveled to my home country and I was pretty much tired. I had scheduled this interview the day after landing. I totally bombed this one. I misunderstood the questions and rambled about the wrong solution for more than half an hour. Original question was very straightforward. Received a rejection after this interview. REST BEFORE INTERVIEWS, IT HELPS TO KEEP YOU SANE DURING INTERVIEWS.

Broadway:

There were 5 interviews and all of them were coding plus behavioral based. Questions asked were mostly medium to hard. I was able to clear all the interviews. Recruiter said feedback was positive but they had filled all the positions. I was waitlisted and didn’t receive an offer.

VMware:

I had four technical rounds. Each of them had 1-2 leetcode medium-hard questions based on arrays, dynamic programming and graphs. One round had a hard graph problem and the interviewer was guiding me on the algorithm. This round was all about whether you can implement stuff based on the direction provided and ability to learn new things. For one round, I was not able to reach the most optimal solution. I received an offer for the Palo Alto office the following week.

Google:

I had an online assessment and virtual onsite. Virtual onsite had four tech interviews and one behavioral interview. Each interview was purely focused on a coding problem. Questions were mostly medium-hard. I had medium questions for two of the interviews and there were harder follow up questions for them.I started with whatever idea i had initially, mostly brute force and optimized along the way. All of the interviewers were super nice and communicative throughout the interview. It was one of the best onsite interviews that I had. I was offered L3.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure:

Interviews were pretty straightforward for oracle. I had one phone screen where I solved an easy lc and then there were four interviews. Questions were pretty straightforward and I was able to get all the test cases for each round. Hiring manager asked a few behavioral and system design based questions. I received the offer the next day.

Two Sigma:

I already had five offers at this time and I was pretty tired. I had offer deadlines expiring soon so I tried to expedite these interviews. I did a total of 7 interviews with two sigma. Four of them were technical. Mostly had medium-hard lc and I was supposed to write full fledged tests for them as well. Then I was invited for 3 behavioral interviews which included standard behavioral questions. I was rejected after behavioral interviews in a hiring committee review.

I withdrew from Meta and Apple interviews since I already had a offer that I was going to take. At this point, I had crossed 50 interview count.

At last, I was able to get the dream offer that I was waiting for. I never thought I would make it through all these grueling interviews. There is no fixed syllabus for interviews. You have to find resources and methods that work for you. Believe in your methods and keep improvising. Please upvote if you find this post helpful :)
