Applied through their careers portal & received the assessment link the next day.

Online Assessment [90 Mins]

Received the result of the assessment within a few hours of submitting it & recruiter screening was scheduled.

Recruiter Screening [30 Mins]

  • Standard questions i.e. expectations, current offers, etc.

I received the invite for virtual on-site interviews after a few days.

Interview-1 (Coding) [60 Mins]

  • Interview started with a brief intro & then only one coding question was asked.
  • In the question, logs for payments & bookings were provided in JSON format & I was asked to write code for processing the provided logs & generate a report. The generated report will be used by the payment operations team.
  • No more details were provided. It was expected of me to ask all the clarifying questions & identify what details should be present in the report. In the follow-ups, I was given a few more scenarios & was asked to cover them in my code. I was also asked to explain the runtime complexity of my code & how that can be improved.

Interview-2 (System Design) [90 Mins]

  • I was asked to design a service for detecting fraudulent credit cards. High-level design was expected.
  • Description (similar):
Booking.com offers a feature “book now, pay later” that allows users to make a
booking a hotel room now and pay later, on or before check-in. Credit card details
are provided by users at the time of booking. However, people can misuse this
feature & make bookings with fraudulent credit cards which can cause legal problems.
Design a system that detects the use of fraudulent credit cards and blocks them from
booking rooms. Given: a 3rd party API that provides a list of newly added fraudulent
credit card numbers.
  • Few follow-ups but they didn't go into very specific details & I was able to adapt my design to cover the follow-ups.

Interview-3 (Cultural Fit) [60 Mins]

  • A lot of questions about my behavior in certain situations, similar to that of LP questions at Amazon. However, follow-ups were limited & didn't go into very specific details.

Verdict: Offer

In summary, the interview difficulty was quite moderate as compared to what I'm used to here in India. Not sure if it's due to the high competition in the Indian market.
