Interview Experience with Bloomberg Quant Team

Phone Interview
I applied through LinkedIn, and a recruiter reached out to schedule a phone interview with a team manager (Fixed Income Pricing). The interview was great, I was asked couple of questions about my background and then some machine learning related questions, no coding (some scenarios, statistical tests, offline vs online metrics, etc.). At the end of the phone interview, the interviewer told me what to expect in the next round and that a recruiter will reach out to schedule the onsite interview.

Onsite Interview
The recruiter reached out with a schedule and discussed the structure of the onsite interview. 2 initial tech rounds that would contain coding, system design, and some behavioral questions. Then a potential 3rd round "Manager round", and a 4th round "HR". The onsite took place this week.

Round 1: One coding question not LC tagged, a follow up but without coding, and One question (no need for coding) but relates to calculating probabilities and do random sampling (just pseudo code).

Round 2: Machine Learning discussion about regression techniques, and how would I solve some problems related to overfitting, missing data, feature engineering, PCA. It was very interactive and felt like I was discussing ML components with colleagues (and going back and forth) rather than an interview.

Break: I was asked to wait in the meeting room (zoom) for about 30 mins and someone would be with me after that.

Round 3: Two managers joined the meeting and start asking questions about my resume. They showed some interest in Meta-Heuristics as it was my MS thesis 3-4 years ago. They asked questions about that, and how did I use some ML techniques. I had the opportunity to ask couple of questions (also in Round 1 and 2). At the beginning of this round, they mentioned that it will be the last round (so no HR round).

After the interview, the recruiter reached out and said that she couldn’t do the HR round as she had some urgent stuff to do, and that I should hear back shortly.
