Status: Currently working as full stack engineer with 6 YOE
Position: SDE 2 at Amazon

A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and started the process. The process consisted of an Online Assessment and then 4 rounds of interview spread over 2-3 weeks.

Online Assessment:
It consisted of 3 sub assessments which had to be given in one sitting:

1. Coding Challenge – this timed section takes 90 minutes, work through two coding problems.
   • Had 2 coding questions, 1 Easy, 1 Medium difficulty level
2. Work Simulation – typically takes 15 minutes, work through system design problems faced by SDEs at Amazon.
   • Questions here were scenario based. There was a requirement given and based on that I had to select options. It involved choosing among various services like SQL or NoSQL DB, append logs, message queues etc.
3. Work Style Surveys – 2 surveys, typically takes 15 minutes, answer questions about how you approach your work.
   • This was also scenario based. Typical work scenarios were given and I had to choose my next action based on the given information.
     For ex: You just had a meeting with the product team about a new feature they are planning. What will you do next?
     - Option A: Start high level design
     - Option B: Start coding
     - Option C: Meet with TPM and clarify requirements better
     - Option D: Estimate the effort required.

Interviews (4 Rounds):
All interviews happened online via Amazon Chime.

Note: LP is short for Leadership Principle

Round 1 (DS + LP):
Question 1: Max Product Triplet
Question 2: Tell me about a time when you solved a problem for a customer and what was the problem.

Round 2 (HLD + LP)
Question 1: Tell me a time when you had to learn something new in your job to implement something.
Question 2: Tell me a time when you were solving something for a customer and you overachieved than your expectations.
Questions 3: Design a job scheduler which is distributed with the following constraints:

• Users can schedule a single execution as well as recurring jobs
• Report real time progress of jobs
• Execute each job only once
• Retry on error

Round 3 (HLD):
Design Your Orders page of Amazon. The page can consist of order information, payment information, product details and quanity. The page should be fast enough that it can be accessed by millions of users daily.

Round 4 (DS + LP):
Question 1: Tell me a time when you solve a challenging problem.
Question 2: Tell me a time when you went beyond your role to do some work.
Question 3: Tell me a time when you had to deliver something but couldn't.
Question 4: Tell me a time when you had to deliver in a short time.
Question 5: Binary Tree Maximum Path Sum
Question 6: Why do you want to leave your current company?

Overall, the process was smooth and interviews were really helpful. I was able to solve the problems but required some hints which I think was the reason for rejection. However, I didn't receive any communication after my last interview.
