I'm not sure what I'm experiencing is common, so I am looking for some help or similar experiences.
A recruiter reached out to me for general hire at amazon, so I applied. After finishing OA and VO, I got a pass for L4(SDE). They told me the interviewers are very happy and they all gave positive feedback, so they decided to extend an offer for L4. I questioned the recruiter that I am supposed to interview for a L5(SDE II) position, but why I get downleveled, is there any reason or feedback from the interview loop that explains why I am not qualified for L5. And she say no, the feedback is positive, and some other BS like I will be promoted to L5 in no time after I join. At this point, I'm not considering taking the offer or even negotiating the offer since it's a L4 position.
I could accept being rejected, or downleveled with some valid reasons, OR knowing there is some reason that recruiter could not share, but there is non. I'm wondering if other people have similar experience that they got downleveled with no explaination. Is it their policy that interview feedback could not be shared with interviewees? Or I got messed up by the recruiter?
