Interview Process:
Round 1 - Online Coding Assessment (1-1.5 hours):
- 1 medium level DSA question on trees
- Some MCQ questions related to system design and behavioural (e.g. You have to add a new feature based on some requirements, and some options were given, you have to provide 1-5 rating for each option as to which is the most significant step you would take).
Round 2 - Coding (1 hour):
- 1 medium to hard question on Graphs (based on optimised BFS)
- Modified the question to add more conditions (Had to use DP)
Round 3 - Coding (1 hour):
- A medium question on Arrays with DP
- Another medium question on Hashmaps and arrays
Round 4 - System Design (1 hour):
- I was not sure if this is HLD or LLD, nothing mentioned in the invite
- I was asked to design Google Drive or Dropbox
- It was an open ended design, but was stressed mostly on the types of files to support, the platforms where it will be supported, how to sync between them, the APIs for performing the operations and the DB choice and schema design
Round 5 - Hiring Manager (1 hour):
- Spent initial 25 mins discussing about the recent projects I did. It also consisted of some behavioural questions like "Tell me the project you are most proud of and why" and "Any negative feedbacks you received, how did you tackle that"
- The remaining 35 mins, he gave me a simple problem statement where I need to copy files from a remote host to a group of hosts (all residing in the same private network except the remote host) and asked me how i would perform the operation efficiently, build a system around it and scale it.
Round 6 - Bar Raiser (1 hour):
- She was a senior HR exec
- She asked standard behavioural questions (approx. 6 leadership principles)
Point to note: In every onsite round, I was asked atleast 1 behavioural question. So, it is better to prepare for them from the start.
Result:
I was offered the position.
After coding and design rounds, they postponed my process by 2 weeks (not sure why). By that time, I had already accepted the other offer. It was during my last week of notice period, the remaining interviews were scheduled and results were also provided in the same week.
I declined the offer because I got a good and competitive offer.
However, I got an offer based on this interview for Amazon London. Amazon London SDE2 (L5) | Google Munich L3
