Zepto - Software Engineer 1 (Backend) - April 2022

Got a call after 3 days for the interviews.There were 2 rounds.

First Round (DS Algo + Backend Fundamentals) -

It was outsourced to InterviewVector.The round consisted of 1 DS Algo (Easy-Medium) question.The question was Letter Combinations of a Phone Number. Was able to solve it quickly and explained the approach to him.Later the interviewer went into the backend concepts such as Databases(SQL vs No-SQL), their use cases , indexing in SQL databases.Discussed about caching solutions and at last he went over the Design Patterns and SOLID design principles.Was able to give satisfactory answers to his questions.Was confident that I will be through to the next round.

Got the call for next round the same day.
Second Round (LLD Design round) -

This round was taken by one of the employees at Zepto.This was my first LLD Design round so I made it clear to the interviewer the same and asked him about the expectations from this round.The interviewer was extremely friendly and made the parameters of the round clear, which was to design a backend database(went with SQL) for a Facebook [Social media] application. He had requirements similar to that of facebook , like the
-> User can have friends
-> To be friends with each other, a friend request is sent, they become friends if the request is accepted
-> User can make posts
-> Friends can add comments, like each others posts
-> Friends can share each others posts
-> Scaling
-> Timeline

Designed the database and went over the indexing part for the table , how would the timeline be designed and how to scale the things(went over caching for this one).Interviewer seemed fine with the approach.

Verdict - Received the call from HR saying you have cleared both the rounds and we would like to go ahead with the offer letter.Got the offer letter the very next day
