Background:
Education: Master's for TIER-1 college India.
Designation: SDE2
YOE: 2.5.
I applied for L5 positions in London office and below is my overall interview experience:
OA:
The OA was done on hackerrank which contains 3 sections:
PhoneScreen:
It was a one hour long round, split into 2 parts. The first was mainly focused on my work and resume. The second half hour was dedicated for a coding question. Again another string manipulation question where they wanted to see how I am doing various string operations like split("") etc. It was fairly easy and I was able to complete it without breaking a sweat.
Interviews:
The final round contains 5 interviews: 1HLD, 3 Tech+Behavioural, 1 Behavioral.
find command with a followup to find all the files with certain criterias like size less then 20Kb etc. I was able to complete the task and the interviewer seems pretty happy with my apprach. I will rate this to be 10/10.In my opinion my interviews went pretty well, both in coding as well as I was able to come up with uniques examples for all the behavioural rounds as well.
Result:
I was contacted by the recuiter couple of days later and suggeested that they can offer me SDE1(L4) within UK but not in London. This was highly disappointing, but this came along with a cherry on top that they can offer me a CTC which is less then my current offer. I politely rejected the offer as this is not only disrespectful but also humiliating. IMHO recuiters should respect the interviewee's time and efforts before proceeding any further with the process and clear all these expectations beforehand rather than wasting the time and efforts for not only interviewee but also the interviewers that are spending their precious time taking the interview. Overall its a very unfruitful experience for me and I have to think twice before applying in Amazon again in the near future :).
