Amazon | SDE 1 | Bengaluru | DEC 2021 [Offer]

I interviewed for Amazon SDE 1 recently and would like to share my experience with all you guys. I will not be sharing the exact questions due to NDA signed.

Location - Banglore
YOE - 0-2 yrs

Round 1: Online Assesment
This consisted of 2 questions and many behavorial related questions (30-40).
Question 1 was a simple implementation based problem and was very trivial. Question 2 was a problem based on BFS and was a medium level problem.

Performance - solved both the questions and answered behavorial questions best to the ability

After this got mail that I have cleared the OA and was given a date for interview but It didnt happened on that day, then was contacted after 1 month for the interviews.

Round 2: Technical Round

  1. Introduce Yourself
  2. A string based question where what to do was pretty clear, but was little moderate on implementation side, main motive was to test the coding/implementation skills.
  3. An array based question where little bit of thinking was involved and then was asked to write the code
  4. Typical 2-3 leadership based questions (customer obsession related and toughest project)
  5. Any questions (Asked WFH based query)

Performance - solved both and gave decent answeres to the leadership principles

Round 3: Technical Round

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. A stack based normal questions and asked to write production ready code
  3. A greedy problem of medium level

Performance - solved the first question easily and was struggling in second question but at the end got a decent approach to it and coded it.

Round 3: Hiring Manager Round

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. Asked about which language I use/prefer (c++)
  3. What new thing you have recently learnt in that language
  4. Asked questions about React/Angular as it was mentioned in my resume
  5. Asked some oops related questions and tried to go little deep in them
  6. Asked about my toughest project and asked numerous question in that, I could answer them as i had prepared this well.
  7. Any questions (Asked about team bonding activites)

Performace - Was little shaky in some of the questions but overall it went well, was able to explain my project and its challenges well. It was a very nice interivew.

Round 5: Bar Raiser Round

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. Any scenario where I had to work hard for satisfying customer requirements
  3. He wasnt too satisfied with my previous answer so asked for some other scenario and its impact
  4. Any project that you completed with strict deadline.
  5. Gave a heap based problem to solve [medium level]

Performace - Initial few questions regarding the leadership principles didnt go very well. Gave a non optimal algorithm for the heap based problem, and was asked to code it, after coding it in last 10 minutes gave the most optimal approach and was asked to code it, coded it anyhow and finally it was done. This didnt go good as I felt iI was not able to communicate my thoughts well.

Verdict - selected

Tips-

  1. Prepare leadership principles well
  2. Prepare a good project and revise it thoroughly, when you speak about it try to speak in terms of challenges in the project and how you were able to overcome it, I had prepared 3-4 challenges and its solution for my project
  3. Practise from strivers SDE sheet as it very well had covered different kinds of questions asked.
  4. Try to write code with good variable and function names and keep on talking will thinking and writing the code

Thanks to the Leetcode community as it helped me a lot during my preparation
