Position: Senior Software Engineer
Location: US Remote

I want to share my process application for a Segment [a Twilio's recent company purchase] Senior Software engineer from the beginning until the offer I received.

Phone screening with recruiter. Got contacted through LinkedIn inMail by a Senior Talent Researcher byt End of July. Talked about the available position and proceed to have a Phone call with the Hiring Manager for more insights about the team.

Phone screening with hiring manager. Had a friendly phone talk with the Hiring Manager two days after the initial screening. He explained in brief about the product they are responsible of develop and maintaining, and asked some questions to validate if my profile matched with the open position. Confirmed to continue in the process.

Initial Techincal screening. Scheduled the inital Technical screening by initial August. Was a simple challenge of solving and API JSON consuming in Javascript in 90 minutes through another platform similar to Leetcode.

Systems Design Interview. Scheduled the following up interview by end-August since the Recruiter was on leave. This was basically designing a Notification System based on Customer scenarios such as inactive users management.

Virtual On Site. After passing the Systems Design Interview, I was schedule to the Virtual Onsite Round which consisted of a hefty process of 5 interviews (could be scheduled for on day or multiple days based on availability of the candidate and the interviewers). Requested to have it on end-September so that I could had enough time for preparing.

  1. Behavioral Questions. Explain a situation when you had to deal with something
  2. Core Interview. More about behavioral questions focused on the company values
  3. Pair Programming. Received and scaffoldind code and instructions to resolve a similar code activities based on the daily activites that the team works. It was a React component build, basically.
  4. Hiring Manager. A deep interview with the Hiring about the product they were developing and manteining, more insights about the tech stack used and expectations from their side to the candidates
  5. Project Interview. Talked about a project I've worked on in the past for 1 hour. Four employes from the Engineering team did attended the candidate presentation. I came prepared with specific project/example that could be shared and walktrhough and hour exposition covering introduction, high level design, deep dive and a Q&A session.
  6. Salary & Logistics. Brief talk with the HR talent adquisition responsible to discuss compensation and logistics about change of employer since I need a work permission support for legally work in the US (TN2 visa support)
