Rounds

Round 1 - Machine Coding
Duration - 1.5 hr
Interviewers - 1

Recruiter sent me the jar file of parking lot application 15 mins before the start of the interview. Interviewer walked me through the problem statement which was to complete the missing features and test cases.

• It was overall an easy round.
• You just have to talk through the choices you are making while completing the code of missing features. (which is only hashmaps)

Round 2 - Design and past projects
Duration - 1 hr
Interviewers - 2

• For the first 30mins, interviewers discussed about my past projects, my contributions, learnings and reasons behind my decisions.
• Next 15 mins, they wanted me to come up with design of chat application. They didn't want me to go into detail, just wanted to talk through the high-level choices(like web socket, etc).
• Next 10 mins, they asked some behavioural questions like what are my expectations, why leaving, and one special question - "how would I explain the concept of API to my grandmother?".
• They gave me last 5 mins to ask them questions.

Round 3 - Discussion on past projects
Duration - 1 hr
Interviewers - 2

• In this round, again interviewers focussed on my past projects. But this time, they were more interested on the project planning, tracking, prioritising and other non-tech difficulties/learnings I had.
• They also asked some behavioral questions.
• This was the most weird interview for me so far. I don't know how to judge whether this round went good for me or not. I just assumed since gojek proceeded for next round, so I must have done decent.

Round 4 - HM
Duration - 1 hr
Interviewers - 1

• In this round, interviewer focussed on my past experience, challenges, learnings, what things I would change in those projects, etc. and some other typical HM round questions.
• He also asked for the design of workflow orchestration systems. Again, just the high level choices nothing too detailed.
• Overall, interviewer seemed happy with the response imo.

Self-assessment:

• All interviewers seemed very experienced, calm and good at interviewing.
• I felt all interviews ended at positive note with the interviewers satisfied.
• Round 3 was weird for me as it felt more focussed on skills of SDM or TPM than SDE.
• I didn't have a proper HLD round, LLD round or entity modelling round as I found in other interview experiences. Not sure if it was a miss or intentional from recruiter.
• There was no clear expectations from interviews (except for the 1st round). I even tried to ask recruiter before interviews but she gave a vague response.
• Entire interview process was very long and took about ~1.5 months.

Result - Rejected
Just received an automated rejection email from Gojek. I tried to follow-up with recruiter on the overall feedback since I felt interviews went good, but no response!!
