A little about my profile:

  • Work Exp: 3 years at a product-based MNC
  • College Tier: Tier-3
  • Date: Apr - Oct, 2021

Somewhere around early April, got a call from Amazon recruiter asking if I'd be interested for SDE-2 opening at Amazon. Interviews happened in August & September.

Round 1 (Online Assessment) - April, 2021
Online assessment comprised of 2 sections, the first section was a coding test on HackerRank and the second section was a work-style assessment test on some different platform.

  • Coding Test:
There were 2 coding questions & for each question, I also had to write my logic & approach for solving the problem -
Q1: A long problem statement that eventually boiled down to a standard array problem. [LC Easy]
Q2: A long problem statement that eventually boiled down to a standard graph problem. [LC Medium]
If you've prepared the common/standard DSA interview questions, you can easily solve these.
  • Work-Style Assessment:
Around 50 MCQs around your behavior & philosophies. I think it's good to align your answers to the leadership principles (LPs) of Amazon but I wasn't aware about LPs when I attempted the test.

The very next day my recruiter informed me that I cleared the test & provided me a date for the virtual on-site rounds. Recruiter wasn’t open to negotiate on the onsite date & so, I roughly had 10 days to prepare. After this, they kept rescheduling my interviews for the next 3 months without providing any reason & finally the interviews happened in August.

Round 2 (Virtual Onsite Interview - Problem-Solving & Coding) - August, 2021
The interview started with introductions, followed by a couple of questions on LPs, and then 2 coding questions.

  • LP Questions:
Two questions on the LP - Learn & be curious.
  • Coding Questions:
Q1: A standard tree question (LC Easy)
Q2: A graph problem that required few tweaks in BFS/DFS (LC Medium)
If you're well versed with the DSA standard interview questions, you'll be good here.

Round 3 (Virtual Onsite Interview - High-Level Design) - August, 2021
This interview was conducted by the hiring manager. The session started with introductions, followed by a question on LP, and finally the system design.

  • LP Questions:
One question on the LP - Bias for action.
  • System Design Question:
Was asked to design a system that can be found in almost all the system design prep resources on the internet.

Round 4 (Virtual Onsite Interview - Low-Level Design) - August, 2021
The interview started with introductions, followed by a question on LP, and then the system design.

  • LP Questions:
One question on the LP - Customer Obsession.
  • System Design Question:
Was asked to design one of the online multiplayer games.

Round 5 (Virtual Onsite Interview - Bar-Raiser) - September, 2021
The interview started with introductions, followed by few questions on LP, and then one coding question.

  • LP Questions:
2-3 questions on the LP mainly around the principles ‘Deliver Result’ & ‘Insist on the Highest Standards’ with a couple of follow ups on each question.
  • One LC Medium Coding Question based on hash tables and sorting.

Verdict: Reject (October, 2021). No feedback provided.
