Alright, i think it is time to give some back to the community. I used leetcode discuss in the past to see what other candidate's experience was like. Hopefully someone will find this useful. YOE ~10 years, BS and MS in CS from US University.

Recruiter stage

Recruiter reached out very quick after applying (within 1 day), I was sent a form to complete where I had to put in technologies I was most familiar with and some other simple questions.
I was contacted about 3-4 days later about my form and asking me for the best time and date to schedule a phone screen.
We never chatted on the phone, I am not sure if this is the norm with Google. I was put in touch with someone else that worked on a team that was not in the US for the actual schedulling.

I had to reschedule my phonescreen, and they did accomodate that for me, fwiw. I rescheduled about 10 days of the interview, and asked for 2 weeks extra. Which put my initial June interview in July.

Phone screen

I took 30 days to prep for this, I spent most of the time doing some other algo website, and some Leetcode. When i took this interview i was about 70 questions on this other website (most medium, some easy, some hard). I had some previous experience with Leetcode from last year.

My 1st question was not on Leetcode, or I don't think i did ever find it here. It was to parse an input string based on a maximum width, and split it to new lines after it passes the given width. I would have to do this by modyfing the given string and serting /n. My algorithm needed to be built in such a way that it would not split words but instead shove these words on the next line.

I did a naive implementation to this that did not handle the splitting words.

My 2nd question was a simple question. Given an unsorted array, return the 2nd largest item. I gave the usual responses using sorting, priority queue, etc. But he was looking for something that would run in O(n). After a hint, i went ahead and coded up what he had in mind.

I was contacted a few days later by the recruiter. She was asking me if I had any feedback for her, and that she was waiting for additional feedback from her team. I got the rejection email a few days after my reply.

Thoughts
I am not sure why my recruiter emailed me to ask for feedback, perhaps my coding feedback was so and so?
It is frustrating, but I found this interview to be the easiest of the ones I had.
What I would do different if given a chance? I would probably not schedule hard interviews so close to when I started my prep, you live and you learn. I honestly was not expecting to be contacted within 24h after applying. I applied to Google last year also and was ghosted.
