Online Test:
TLDR: easy to medium level ad-hoc questions

  • Platform: HackerEarth
  • Round details: Three problem solving questions in 90 minutes. Easy to medium level.
  • Areas covered: Problem solving - Stack, ad-hoc.
  • Three problem solving questions in 90 minutes of easy - medium
level. Brute force solution will pass most of the test cases. Optimization can be done if
found time. Clean code is recommended since the approach of the code is asked in
    the technical HR round.

Technical HR:
TLDR: Whiteboard, OOPS, DB

  • Platform: HackerEarth
  • Round details: Duration was 75 minutes. I was asked to explain the approach and
complexity of the final problem solving question from the previous round. I was asked
to give the optimal solution. Questions on OOPS and DB were asked.
  • Areas covered: DS & Algos, Complexities, OOPS, DB.
  • Choose a very well known approach while discussing solutions for
coding questions, since build on top of existing code is expected for follow-up. Know
the basics of OOPS and DB.

General HR:
TLDR: Heavily tested in DB, SQL. Basics in Java, Linux, DevOps

  • Platform: Google meet
  • Round details: Duration was 60 minutes. Initially I was expecting HR questions, but they went for technical questions from the beginning. Questions from self intro were asked.
  • Areas covered: Java, OOPS, DB, Testing basics, DevOps basics, Linux and CLI commands basics.
  • Follow up from self intro was asked. Have good knowledge in things you’re saying. Thinking out loud, mapping HR’s expectations with our assumptions is important.

Areas to Prepare:

  • DS & Algo problem solving
  • Java basics
  • CS fundamentals (OOPS, DB)
  • Basics on domains from job description and self-intro.

Resources:

  • LeetCode - coding questions.
  • Edureka - OOPS, DB.
  • Edureka - DevOps interview questions.
  • HackerRank - SQL.

Overall Experience:

  • First round was easy - medium difficulty. 90 minutes was comfortable enough to come up with good solutions. Coding questions had corner test cases which were difficult to figure out. I couldn’t pass all the test cases in the given time.
  • Second round was challenging. It was about 60 minutes. The objective was to find the optimal solution for the final coding problem.
  • In the light of time, I came up with a mediocre solution and improvised it. I made sure that I was thinking aloud so that the interrogator could conceive how I narrowed down to the best solution. The ask of third round was further difficult with questions ranging from Java to linux. The overall experience was really good.

General Tips:

  • Be very good in problem solving and complexity analysis. It will be the major part of the process. Also, be clear in the core subjects such as OOPS, DBMS.
  • Talk out what goes on your mind about the problem given to you for solving, so that the HR gets to know how your thought process is and where you face the problem and can try to help you.
  • Should be ready for the follow-up questions.
  • Don’t hesitate to clarify the problem clearly with the HR.
  • Don’t rush for the optimal solution. Explain step-by-step optimization of the naïve solution to the optimized solution.
  • Read basics on domains described in job description before the HR round.
