Current YOE - 6-7 years
Applied on Careers page, got contacted by recruiter who scheduled the interviews.
Overall process took around 1-2 months.

Note:
It was told that the expectations from a ML engineer are the same as that for a SWE as far as coding rounds were concerned. Most of the questions asked in the interviews are all tagged FB on LC (as expected in case of FB).

Virtual Screen

One medium and one hard, the questions were similar to these two:

https://leetcode.com/problems/continuous-subarray-sum/

https://leetcode.com/problems/merge-k-sorted-lists/

Virtual Onsite

Coding Round 1:

Two mediums - Similar to these two:

https://leetcode.com/problems/leftmost-column-with-at-least-a-one/

https://leetcode.com/problems/lru-cache/

Coding Round 2

Three mediums - two of them follow up of each other. Similar questions from LC:

https://leetcode.com/problems/tree-diameter/
https://leetcode.com/problems/diameter-of-n-ary-tree/
https://leetcode.com/problems/diameter-of-binary-tree/

https://leetcode.com/problems/next-greater-element-i/
https://leetcode.com/problems/next-greater-element-ii/

Behavioral round

General questions on past experience, some technical questions on past projects, conflict resolution, conflict with manager etc.

ML Design round

Design a places recommendation system for Maps. (to show places recommendations when you open Google Maps, FB nearby page etc.)

System Design round

Design a global search feature for whatsapp status posts. (imagine everyone has whatsapp text statuses uploaded everyday which keep getting posted and removed, implement a search on top of this that scales to whatsapp scale).

Feedback came in after a week saying I was rejected based on my performance in design rounds (as they were expecting me to take more initiative and lead the design rounds, due to this being a senior role). Coding rounds went well as I was able to solve the questions ~10 minutes before in all the rounds.

I couldn't manage my time well in design rounds so this was expected. I spent way too much time on depth of some components before covering the breadth of the problem and left out some important parts by the end of the interview, especially in the SD round. I was asked to reapply in a year.

It has been a few months since I gave these interviews, so I tried to recall the questions as best I can. Hope this helps anyone else preparing. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
