Rippling Interview Experience July 2021

Summary

Overall the experience was nice but they did not extend an offer because I had other interviews (with other companies). The recruiter was telling me how Rippling tends to hire for specific projects and expects engineers to start right away. This is hinting that I should not take long to accep the offer if one is extended. Ultimately I think I did well on all the rounds but they did not extend an offer saying that I have communication issues (nothing more clear). I personally think it's due to the fact that they don't think they can compete with FB and Google, which I was interviewing with.

Phone Screen

The phone screen was 100% technical and it was a tree question. It was overall a nice experience with coderpad. It was a straight forward question that required post-order tree traversal.

Demo

This is the part where they sell their product to you since there are many competitors in the CRM space. A manager spoke with me and gave a live demo on the actual product.

Virtual Onsite

The onsite was composed of:

  1. System Design
  2. Coding
  3. Coding

They are pretty straight forward. System design is like your typical "design twitter" problems and so I would suggest review your technologies and know what they are good at. Definitely read the Designing Data Intensive Application book. As for the technical round it's pretty simple as well - first one was a 2D-grid question where you will implement the "drawing" of shapes using characters. The 2nd one was a stream processing question but all data would fit in memory.

Verdict

It's a good interview experience overall but I personally think the company is simply too afraid to compete. If you are after some interview practice, go for it. If you are 100% believe in their product and super passionate about building CRM, go for it. If you are going to interview around and have multiple offers, don't expect them to compete or even give an offer.
