Junglee Games | SDE II - Backend | June 2021 | Bangalore | Offer

Education and work experience:

  • Previous and current company: Teradata and Wissen Technology
  • College: M.Tech(University of Hyderabad), B.Tech(University of Calcutta)
  • YOE: 2 years
  • Current CTC: 13.5 LPA

I was recently interviewed by Junglee Games for SDE II - Backend position.

Interview experience:

  • Round 1: It was a hackerrank round where I had to solve 3 very standard problems (DP, Two Pointer) in 90 minutes. And there were 10 MCQs related to core CS subjects.

  • Round 2: Interview with an SDE II. He asked my several projects related questions and the technologies I have worked on. As I had previously worked in AWS and Spark so a lot of questions came from these areas. He even asked about Cassandra and Kafka. In the end he asked me to solve two problems.
    1. Remove duplicates from linked list (in one traversal).
    2. Given an integer n, print all binaries of integers between 1 and n. But you can't use any bitwise operator.

  • Round 3: Interview with an SDE III. This interviewer didn't ask me a single DS algo question. It was entirely a technical round. A lot of discussion on the projects. An in depth discussion on core Java (Multithreading, Inheritence, Collections). One needs to have very good understanding on core Java to clear this round. He also asked me questions from AWS, Redis, Kafka etc.

  • Round 4: This round was taken by the VP of Engineering. He gave me a design problem of e-commerece and asked me what data strurcures I want to use, how can I make it scalable, how will I handle the concurrency. A lot of discussion took place around it. After this he asked me some very conceptual core Java questions.

After this round HR called and said I am selected. They offered me the following compensation,

  • Fixed pay: 20 LPA.
  • Bonus: 2 lac annual bonus paid in every quarter.
  • Total CTC: 22 LPA
  • Benefits: A lot of company benefits.
  • Leaves: Total 32 leaves (18 Privilege Leave + 7 Casual Leave + 7 Sick Leave)

I had an another competitive offer from a Unicorn startup as well.

Preparation:

  • I have solved a lot of problems in Leetcode(132 hard problems). Tried not to miss the weekly and bi-weekly contests. Most importantly I practiced regualrly and didn't give up on the hard problems until the end. At times solving one problem took 3 4 days.
  • Prepared core Java very well. As I have previously worked on AWS and Spark so revised those concepts again before the interview.
  • Read a lot of system design articles and watched Youtube videos.

Suggestion:

  • It's not just the FAANG who are offering good work and compensation. Nowadays the startups in India are doing really well in terms of work and compensation. So please keep your options open.
  • If you are looking for good startups then along with problem solving, prepare technology stack very well. The startups are more likely to ask you solve real life problems and want in-depth technical knowledge.

All the best for the people who are looking for a change and I hope this post would be helpful for them.
