Background - SDE 1 in a Semiconductor Company

Online Assessment - 90 mins

• Question Based on Graphs, variation of topological sort.
• Question Based on Priority Queues.

Round 1 - LLD - 1 Hr

• Previous projects and Dicussion on LP , 25 mins
• Dicussion on low level design problem - I wrote all the classes, function, relation between classes.
• Discussion on database design for the problem.
• Interviewer provided some use cases and asked about strategies to handle them.

This was known design problem to me, so I was able to answer all the questions correctly.

Round 2 - Coding - 1 Hr

• Previous projects and Dicussion on LP , 30 mins
• First question was a tree based problem , LC medium , I was able to explain and write code for it in 10 mins as I had done this type of question earlier.
• Second Question based on trees and string patterns , I had never seen this kind of problem earlier on any platform,it was at level of LC hard problem, I explained my approach, interviewer gave a small hint , I was able to write code for it in 20 mins.
• For both the problems I discussed different approaches that I had in mind and the interviewer asked to write the efficient code.

Round 3 - HLD - 1 Hr (Hiring Manager)

• Work in current company and Discussion on LP, 25 mins
• Dicussion on System design problem - I asked some clarifying questions, made the estimation, designed the components.
• Interviewer asked questions about the APIs, Database design, caching, load balancing techniques etc.
• I gave all the answers and interviewer seemed satisfied.

At the end of this round the interviewer pointed that I did not have much of backend experience in my current role
as I had worked in a semiconductor based company.

After 4 days post interviews, got the feedback from the HR that the coding and design skills are good but due to lack of prior experience they could not hire for current role.

Amazon took more than 45 days to schedule the interview rounds after the OA, and after the interviews they provide such feedback, I personally think that they should handle such things before scheduling interviews to avoid wastage of time for both candidates and interviewers.
