First of all sorry for being late in posting this interview experience. This leetcode community helped me a lot while preparing for the interview.
My profile reference:
College: Tier 2
Current Company: I don't want to name it, it's a service based company.
Leetcode solved questions: 200+
Preparatio Time: Around 2 months (I got some extra time due to covid hault in interview process)
Exp: 3.5 yrs
I won't be telling the exact question but may refer similar questions or topics involved
Also, I never saw any of the asked questions before.
Rounds:
Total 6 Rounds as:
1 DSA Telephonic Round
3 DSA On Site Round in one day
1 DSA + 1 Googleyness Round in one Day
Nowadays, I get to know they are taking only 3 rounds of DSA in On Site rounds. Don't know the reason.
Round 1. Phone Screening | Aug 2020
Question was some tougher version of Decode String.
Interviewer was from US office and was not so responsive. He asked just one Leetcode medium question. It was a time taking question. Like it needed time to explain, then check your understanding. I handled all edge cases and asked all appropriate questions and was able to complete it within time and he found no problem in dry run.
Feedback recieved: All positve pointers
Round 2. On Site Round 1 | Sept 2020
Question on Linked List + Graph.
Interviewer directly jumped to questions. 2 Leetcode Medium/Hard questions were asked. I was able to solve both of them in given time. The question was little hard but I was able to come up with a solution and able to complete it in time.
I was so happy on my performance in this round. I have never seen this question ever before and was able to solve.
Round 3. Technical Round | Sept 20202
String manipulation + processing.
Interviewer directly jumped to question. She was from India. 1 Leetcode Medium/Hard questions was asked. To me it seemed like a system design round with DSA involved. It was all strings related but the inteviewer wanted me to explain and design what classes I would need to create. I really had fun solving the problem. I myself came up with so many edge cases and 2 of them she herself didn't expect. I was so so happy at the end of the interview because I desgined it so well and considered all edge cases and explained very well.
Feedback recieved:
I received the feedbacks of these 3 on-site rounds all together next day. I was really hoping for the superb feedback on this interview because of the reasons I explained. And I asked the recruiter about this round and she said it was good. But I was hoping for a word like superb :p. I know, I was expecting a lot but I deserved that expectation. I didn't prepare for the interview with this expectation of system design round and I performed well.
Round 4. Technical Round 3 | Sept 2020
Interviewer directly jumped to questions with little introduction. 1 Leetcode medium question. I was able to solve it. Similar to task scheduling but not same, can say tougher version.
Feedback recieved: So, I received the feedback for all 3 rounds. I was all positive and superb in 1st and 3rd round. And I was expecting this for the 2nd round as well. On a positive note, we scheduled for next interviews
Round 5: Technical Round 4 | Sept 2020
Array and then Graph question
Interviewer directly jumped to questions with little introduction. 1 Leetcode Medium question were asked with 4-5 follow ups, so if you count all it was 5-6 questions. I was able to solve all of them in given time and was curious to take up more challenge in that questions. I loved this question as well. I can still remember the confidence in me while solving that question and coming up with a quick solution to the problems.
Feedback recieved: All positive and superb.
Round 6: Googleyness | Sept 2020
Questions around my project and hypothetical situations were asked. I think I have answered them well.
Feedback recieved: Mostly positive.
After that I was schedued for Team match and then my packet reached HC and they offered me L3.
I would be happy to answer, if you have any more questions. Please don't ask about offer details here.
My tips
One more thing I want to share with you Leetcode Family:
I got really happy to hear the results. But I got sad when I got to know about my level. In the current organisation, I was SDE2 and soon to be senior. I was really hoping for Level 4 profile. I had asked my recruiter in the start itself, but the recruiter said: "we don't choose a profile and take you into the process, it is HC which decides your level. Right now we can't say anything." And then I didn't care much about the level but yeah, I used to ask for the Level in each call we used to have. I did a lot of hard work and I know I could have cracked for Level 4 as well if there was any difference in interviews which actually is not. My all interviews were amazing and got positive response. Google was my dream company, that's why I joined. Any way, I am doing great here in Google. I'll work hard and be happy.
So, my advice to you all is : Please ask your recruiter about the levels they are going to judge you. There may be the case they can downgrade you but atleast you know what's the matter and you can ask.
And once again, thank you Leetcode community! People are so amazing here, you post any question and there are people who are ready to answer your queries.
