Interview

Status: 5 years of Experience as a Full Stack Developer
Position: Senior Software Engineer 1 - Backend at Ally.io
Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
Date: April 1, 2021

There were 6 rounds of interview.
I had one screening call with HR initially and she explained me about what the company does and asked few questions about my previous experience.
Okay now talking about interview rounds, there were 2 coding challenge rounds, 2 system design rounds, one managerial round and finally a behaviourial and culture fit round with CEO himself.

  1. Coding Round 1 (Easy to Medium level difficulty - 1 hour) :

    • Max Product of 2 numbers in an array
    • Remove kth Node from the last in Linked List and extended the same problem with DLL

  2. Coding Round 2 (Hard level difficulty - 1 hour):

    • Minimum window substring. Improved my solution over the course of time. Myself and interviewer collaborated and optimised code a bit further.

  3. Design Round 1 ( 1 hour )

    • I was asked to design a coding platform. Started from LLD with schema, table relationships, api specs and it was extended to HLD w.r.t code execution logics on backend. This round was slightly on harder side because of solving all use cases in a shorter period of time.

  4. Design Round 2 ( 1 hour )

    • In this round, I was asked to design a developers discussion forum. It started with HLD and they tested my skills on architecting and orchestrating pieces around. We then moved to DB schemas and logics on some nested queries.

  5. Hiring Manager Round ( 45 mins )

    • Questions on my previous experience, interesting problems that I’ve solved and behavioural questions.

  6. CEO Round ( 30 mins )

    • Behavioural and Culture fit questions.

Overall, the interview process was smooth and all rounds were scheduled in a span of 2 weeks. Interviewers were amazing and they didn't make me feel uncomfortable during the course.

Result: I got a call from them in 3 days after all rounds and they informed me that I got selected. I accpeted the offer.
