So I was reached by a recruiter in January 2022, and took 2 coding interviews and 1 follow-up interview in early February. I got informed quickly that I passed them, so the recruiter arranged 3 team match interviews after that. Both I and one of the team managers felt like I am the best fit for their needs. We provided our feedback to hr on 24th February, later on, he asked my nationality, etc.
During the whole progress, I checked twice with recruiters about openings and hiring plans, got answers that they were actively hiring. But two and a half weeks later, hr sent me an email saying the hiring process was paused. A week later, which is today, I received a rejection email, in the email, he said the final decision is no interns for this summer, but the hiring for 2023 is about to start, asked me if I am still interested. I asked whether my candidacy can be extended to next year, he said no, still need to be interviewed next year. I googled a bit online, looks like it's a company-wide decision, and I am not the only victim.
I am so desperate and frustrated about this because I really need to graduate by this year, and got tons of things to do. I don't think I can have enough time and energy to handle both job hunting and graduation. A returning offer is an optimal solution to release my pressure. Also, I've spent a few months preparing the interviews, at average of 10+ hours a day. As for the intern position, what I was supposed to do is exactly what I am working on for my research, I and the manager were very excited about our future cooperation.
Well now, all efforts just turned to void. I really don't know how to describe my frustration and hopelessness at this moment, especially when you know this is absolutely unfair but no way to change it. I am still trying to find out any method to make it correct or get an exception.
Does anyone have experience with this? Will they change minds later?
Btw, can we appeal to their higher-level managers? I don't understand how can they easily decline our efforts because they didn't do enough research on real needs vs. applications? Feel like we are jokes to them, even though just internships, our time and effort were disrespected like trash...
