I have 5.5 yrs of total epxerience working mainly .NET tech stack. These days I get call for recruiters for SDE 2 positions in FAANG companies. But they ask one more thing, that is "Do you have any hands-on experience in System Design ?" I usually answer that I have theoritical knowledge of System Design but I do not have hands on experience. So, because of this I am not qualified for the position and they cannot move forward.

Usually system design is performed by the architect in our team and Soft Engg are not invovled.

So how to you get hands on experience in System Design ? What should be my response here ?
