Google Interview and G-tech interview?

Hi all, this would be my first post, please be kind :)

For one, I am applying for SDE and am comlpetely lost on the differentiation between google and G-tech. I know they all belong to Google and g-tech is more client faced support department. But if you take a look at the interview process and interview coverage, it's pretty crazy.

  • g-Tech interview to me, did not have an online assessment round, the HR setup a virtual initial round after the phone screening.
  • g-Tech initial interview could be either data structure / web solution form. D/S form is just like regular facebook or amazon interviews, but a web solution format would be asking you to implement some feature using js or so.
  • The prep material indicates, for even the initial round, candidate should understand a very broad span of knowleges. like how data's being transfered via internet, asyncronous design/com, protocols, setting up http authentication, etc. (this looks really odd to me).

Question: is this g-tech interview similar to what a regular Google interview would be like? How should one be preparing for this kind of interview?

*PS: I have never interviewed at Google before, thus I do not have a good picture of how the interview process should be and the knowledge span covers. I can certainly take on data structure liked interviews, but this g-tech thing is just odd.
Anyone who has these relavent information, please kindly help. *
