5 YOE, ₹22 LPA → HCL offering ₹30 LPA as Senior Technical Lead. What’s the catch?

Hi, I’m currently working at a service-based organization (not WITCH) for a large UK-based client. My organization’s tenure with this client is now coming to an end, and the project is being transitioned to HCL.

The client has specifically asked HCL to retain/hire me because they consider me a good resource. I have around 5 years of experience and currently earn about ₹22 LPA.

When discussing compensation with HCL, I asked for ₹30 LPA, honestly thinking they probably wouldn’t offer that much for someone with my level of experience (seeing how much they pay on glassdoor/ambitionbox). However, they have agreed to it and are now in the process of hiring me as a Senior Technical Lead.

While this sounds like a great opportunity, I have a few concerns:

  1. Will moving to HCL hurt me in the long run? I’ve always wanted to eventually move to a good product-based company (PBC). Will having HCL on my resume make it harder to get into good PBCs later?
  2. Will the higher salary come with unrealistic higher expectations? Since I’ll be joining on a relatively inflated salary compared to my experience, should I expect them to demand significantly more from me than they normally would from someone at this level?
  3. Could it create issues with peers? I’m concerned that people who have significantly more experience than me but earn less might feel envious or resentful, potentially leading to office politics. Is this something I should realistically worry about?
  4. Could they hire me mainly for knowledge transfer (KT)? Since I’m coming from the client side of the transition and already know the project, is there a risk that HCL could use me primarily for KT, and then let me go once the transition is complete?

I know I might be overthinking this. On one hand, getting ₹30 LPA with only ~5 years of experience is obviously a great opportunity (in a service based org). On the other hand, I’m worried there might be some catch that I’m not seeing.

Would really appreciate advice from people who have been in a similar situation or have experience with HCL/client transitions.

Thanks!
