Hey folks,
I’m a backend engineer with 3 years of experience in Python, currently working remotely at a Bangalore-based startup.
💼 Current Compensation:
- ₹19L base
- ₹2L bonus
- ₹6L ESOPs
📦 I’ve received two offers and would love your advice on which one to pick:
🧢 Offer 1: Indian Clothing Brand (focused on fandom/franchise wear)
- ₹26L base
- ₹4L performance bonus (split across the year)
- Location: Pune India (my hometown)
- Work setup: 5 days in-office
- IPO possibility in 2–3 years (as per HR)
- ESOPs mentioned post 6–8 months based on performance (not in the offer letter)
- Building the in-house tech team from scratch — sounds exciting for ownership and visibility
🇬🇧 Offer 2: UK-based Startup
- ₹28L base
- Fully remote
- Known for a strong work-life balance
- No bonus, no ESOPs
- Tried negotiating — they’re firm on ₹28L
🤔 My thoughts:
-
Leaning slightly towards the Indian brand for the hometown advantage and opportunity to build from the ground up.
-
But concerned about:
- Lack of ESOP clarity
- 5-day WFO requirement
-
The remote setup + WLB from the UK startup is very tempting.
-
Not sure if this is a fair market compensation for 3 YOE in Python backend.
-
Wondering if I should negotiate further, or just choose based on priorities.
Would love to hear your thoughts — what would you choose in my shoes?
Especially if you’ve faced similar decisions.
Thanks in advance!
