Hello everyone. I recently got an offer from Paytm (though will continue interviewing :p ).
I graduated from one of the old IITs (non-circuital branch) last year and got placed at Big-4 during my placements (was shortlisted for software companies, but either they didn't come for interviews or hired very less because of the pandemic or diversity).
I started applying this Feb, and recently got an offer from Paytm after 3 rounds
- Round 1 : 8MCQs, and 2 coding questions (both to be done in JS or Typescript) and 1 SQL query. One was binary search on the answer concept, the other "Given an array, sort the elements to maximize the number of positive elements in the prefix sum array." I thought sorting in descending order would do the trick, but I got 7/15 correct. I took care of Integer overflow but didn't help. Can anyone look into this?
- Round 2 : Interview involved Javascript, concepts like currying, function closure, promises etc. Interviewer was chill and asked 2 simple string questions. Fun interview, went for 75 minutes instead of 45 minutes. He asked me to find 2nd largest salary in a table using SQL, and sharding.
- Round 3 : In the introduction I told about how I was self-learning along with my job to switch to a product based company, doing Udemy courses and learning from Youtube. I said I have knowledge about System design but not comfortable (on my own). So, he asked me how will I go about designing a tic-tac-toe game. I treated it as a discussion. He was convinced with the logic and stuff.
All in all, it was a good discussion and what I would suggest is to keep talking with the interviewer (consider him as a future colleague), and listen to what he says very carefully. I was able to catch what he was trying to say so that was a positive. At the end I asked him for feedback and he said that my logic building and everything was good but the only thing was I didn't had experience and that's why he didn't go for a system design question. Interview went for about 1 hour.
I felt I could get rejected because of my lack of experience thing but got a call from the recuiter that my feedback was positive and I am shortlisted. Asked me about my present CTC and said we will discuss the compensation on next working day, sent me a mail asking my documents.
Question: My current CTC is 12LPA (9+3), what should I expect from Paytm. I believe my skills are good and I am expecting a hike 80-100% on my present CTC. Experienced folks, need your advice on how should I go about this. Thanks!
