To preface, I'm a Canadian graduating from a Canadian University.
I currently have a new grad offer from Amazon Canada in Vancouver that I'm likely going to take, however I am concerned about my career prospects looking forward.
My current impression is that Canada is lacking both in terms of salary and in terms of talent, and I'm concerned that my career will stagnate if I stay here. My current goal is primarily to grow in both knowledge and in general involvement as a Software Engineer (I enjoy coding even in my free time, though my general lack of self confidence has stopped me from doing anything too substantial). I've previously done a 16 month co-op placement at a large tech (dinosaur) in Toronto and feel as though I didn't learn too much or benefit careerwise... Given that this was my only real experience thus far, I have no idea what to expect from a career in Software Engineering currently (other than the fact that I believe I enjoy the field).
My hope was to go to work in a 'tech hub' in the US where I can hopefully improve rapidly and work with talented people in hopes of becoming one of those talented people myself. I get that I'm currently looking at a FAANG offer here, but I'm genuinely worried that I won't be getting the same kind of experience.
Can anyone offer any insight here?
