Google Zurich - accepted by HIring Commitee, but on hold due to no headcount to hire

I did the "virtual on-site" interview end of May for Google Zurich (where I live) as SWE L4/5

I thought it went really well, and by end of June the recruiter told me that the Hiring Committee has approved my hire and that the next stage would be Team Matching, which could be slow due to current situation.

But 2 weeks later (middle July) he told me that unfortunately, even if the Hiring Committee approved, there is no headcount to hire in Zurich at the moment and he wouldn't know when this will change, so I will be put on hold until that changes. The Hiring Committee approval is good for one year so I think chances are still good to get into it, but this is very frustrating

It was a huge effort to prepare for this interview (while keeping my current job) and I am really proud I passed it, but the uncertainty does suck.

Do you guys know how is it for other locations?

I guess I cannot do much more than waiting, but any insight/advice is appreciated.

Thanks!
