So I'm starting my new job at one of the big ones on Monday, after going through a single phone interview with a recruiter and a single round of virtual "onsite" interviews (thanks LeetCode for all the prep!)

My question is to everyone who has (or hasn't) gotten an offer in the recent months: Did they ever ask for your references? If so, were your references contacted?

I realized a couple weeks after accepting my offer that I had never been asked for the references (and this isn't a new-grad or internship position) and am just wondering if this is a new normal that we're switching to, or if it was simply overlooked in my case. (For the record, my references would have been glowing and only helped my application.)
